Is alignment of seperate meshes necessary?

guys,

I'm interested in the stress on a transition between two parts in an assembly(weld transition).

But the stress transition is not smooth between the two parts.
This seemed strange to me and i'm wondering why this is.

The meshes don't seem to align nicely, but i'm not sure if this is really necessary.

What did you use to bond the two parts together? A weld connector? Just bonded contact? Either way all I can say is welds are tricky to analyze in FEA because, they defy everything FEA likes: they're non-uniform, they're a compound material, etc...

Mesh alignment might help but I don't think it will be the primary concern.

 
Whenever I analyze stress results that are high in transition areas the first thing I check is the aspect ratio of those elements. Keeping in mind that the aspect ratio of a perfect element is = 1.0, a good upper limit to use would be 5.0 for structural analyses to ensure good elements are being used in the areas of concern.

 
I generally like how they explain it but what's with the bird and dam? I hate that kind of weird stuff. This is from a mechanical design course?
