To all stress engineer dealing with ECSS-E-HB-32-23A -Threaded Fastener handbook
I was pointed to ECSS-E-HB-32-23A for the checks of fasteners by the customer. Looking at ECSS-E-HB-32-23A dated 16 April 2010, equation 9.2.6 in section 9.2.3, could anyone confirm if the equation “returns” a Margin of Safety (MoS) or a Reserve Factor (RF)? All MoS equations in the document are written as MoS = X -1 (where X is something being calculated). However eq. 9.2.6 does not have a “-1” in it.
2 possibilities;
1. Equation is correct and therefore one needs to add a 1 to get an RF
2. Equation is not correct and the “-1” is missing
Thanks
