Is Extracted Edge view (Style?General?Extracted Edges? Associative) useful while handling large assemblies?

I'd better make my model light using component filters 1rst to display what's really needed at the upper levels.
The drafting views will naturally be fast to compute after that and I never have to do anthing else to get large assemblies drawings made easy.

That's one of the scenarios that it was developed for since once you have extracted all of the edges for all of the views, and you turn OFF automatic view updating, you can open you drawing in the future without having to open the assembly file at all (just set your load options to load 'Structure Only'). Later on, if changes were made to some part of the assembly, you will need to do a full load and then force the extracted edges to update, save your drawing and the go back to opening it with the assembly until a change is once again made in the assembly. BTW, you can do that extracted edges and unloading of the assembly after using defined all of your views, but before you start to place notes, labels and dimensions to your model. Even though you are technically dimensioning between extracted curves, the numbers will be correct and later on if you need to update the assembly, and thus the extracted edges, the dimensions will update as well, no different than if the dimensions had been applied the actual assembly edges.
