Just a question about grease. I have a rotary table with bronse bearings and they say in the instructions not to use grease.

I thought grease was good all the time?

Also we have been greaseing belts on our machines to bring the noise down. Does greasing a belt make sense?

I'm trying to understand why this company has these ideas.

Thanks

Hey Greg,

Only one question, you could see the sparks in the dark, but how could you see to do any work?

Oh, we have these new fangled electric lights. We were working on the car in a chassis dyno room, which has no windows, and acoustically treated walls. We usually work with the bonnet (hood) up.

Cheers

Just a quick diversion back to the OP. Grease is a soap as automatic2 states, however it is a bit more than that. The "soap base" is also used to hold the oil close to the surfaces to be lubricated. This can be an issue with central lubrication systems where grease is pumped. The oil can separate from the soap base consequently the bearing fails.
