IS IT ALWAYS MANDATORY TO APPLY NOZZLE LOAD ON STANDARD FLANGE AS PER LATEST ASME?

In the light of latest ASME, Is it mandatory to check standard flanges against nozzle load. In this way most of the time flange rating will increase and every time we have to inform piping department to increase flange rating.

IF A DATA SHEET DOES NOT SAY TO CHECK APPLY LOAD ON FLANGE, EVEN THEN WE HAVE TO APPLY LOADS ON FLANGE???

What do you consider a "standard flange"?
What "pressure vessel" is the "standard flange" attached to, and why do you believe some loads on some flanges (instead of every load on every flange) be should not be checked?

I don't know about the ASME but in the European EN 1092 for standard flanges you must consider some minimum external actions on flanges (En 1092-1 Annex A)

I don't see how a purchaser can over-ride a mandatory provision (as confirmed by Interpretation VIII-1-16-85).

Nevertheless - apply Code Case 2601. Up-rating flanges shouldn't have to be done in most cases.

Code case 2901 is specific to weld neck flanges. Do you know if anything is in the works for all of the other flange types? (LWN / slip-on / lap joint / etc...)?

It would be applicable to LWN. There hasn't been any research done yet on slip-on or lap joint flanges.

Btw, the provisions of the Code Case will be incorporated into UG-44.
