Is there a way to replace the Position Dependent source of a WAVE link? 1

I'm joining a new team/project at work and we are working with a complex assembly, with many component levels, all of which are using the same Control file for interpart WAVE linking - in a bottom-up manner.

I'd like to change the bottom-up structure to a top-down structure where the control file only resides in the top-level assy once, rather than within every lower-level component.

Can I add the control file to the top-level assy and then go into each lower-level component and hit a button somewhere that allows me to change the status of the "Position Determined By Assembly" or "Context Assembly?"

I'm sure I can manually edit each WAVE link by doubling the link -> deselecting original position reference -> and re-selecting new position reference, but I'm wondering if there's a tool for this that would make thing easier?

Hi,

You need a MACH3 Indus license to have access to this button (sorry for the french screenshot)

Thank you DidierPSICAD,

The Make Position Independent function is good to know about.

But in my case, I wanted to maintain Position Dependency w.r.t. some assembly layout, it's just that I didn't want every component in the Assy Nav to be carrying the control file within it (hence bottom-up). What I wanted to do is add the control file at the top assembly level and only interpart link from there (top-down). There are multiple tools to track/manage WAVE links, e.g. Interpart Link Browser, Relations Browser etc. and I just wasn't sure if there was another tool for swapping Assembly Context of each link source.

After looking around, I don't think there is but it was pretty easy to manually updating each link, while in context with the top-level, by making each component with a WAVE link the Work part, double clicking the link, Shift-deselect and re-select from the control file from the top-level.
