In Section VIII, Div. 1 Paragraph UHX-15.3 lists the following equation:

ff = ratio of the fillet weld strength to the design strength

= [1 - Fg/(fdFt)]

Can this be right?

Thanks,

-Christine

Keep your eyes open in July. There are a lot of changes to UHX. Remember when SecII Part D came out?

Recommend you use the Code Case for an extension on your submittals.

Talk to your AIA,the change draft is finished.

This formula has not changed. Makes more sense when it is used with the rest of the section.(some of which has changed)

Thanks, deanc.

The reason I suspected something was wrong here is that the entire formula in enclosed in brackets, for no apparent reason.

Also, for partial strength welds, the fillet weld strength to design strength ratio is typically a negative value. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

So since when does it have to make sense? ASME- Always,Sometimes,Maybe,Except

Just kidding-a lot of work by some very skilled people has gone in to UHX so far. Much more is coming.
