First of all, I'm practicing hydraulics for quite a few months now. Only recently I had a hard time doing calculations manually or in an excel spreadsheet. I need to calculate or check the HGL or EGL of my storm water system that uses circular pipes and box culverts in a very large network.(i.e. 4km in length with branches that ranges from 500 meter to 1 km in about 22 sq.-km drainage area; yes in SI units)
They say EPA SWMM is capable of calculating the HGL of a large network, section by section, from upstream to downstream outlet. Is that true?
I tried going thru the tutorial and help guide but I couldn't find that it actually does what it says.
When I tried to profile it, I can't see the HGL.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance.

Click on "profile plot"

Then select start node and end node (then click on find path) then "ok".
The run simulation.
Map and animation tool.

IMO, EPA SWMM us a good free software.

EPA SWMM is not always the friendliest outputs for reviewers, but it's a very powerful and very comprehensive piece of software.

Okay thanks for the response. However, it seems I'm gonna need to read again the tutorial. I can't understand how the Map animator works and also the choices in Themes (subcatchments,Nodes, links and how it relates to the layout) and time period. I can't identify the "head" (I suppose that's the HGL)in the animator once I play it..it doesn't do anything.
Theme
Subcatchment: Area
Nodes: Head? Is this correct?
Links: Depth or what?
Time Period
Date?
Time of Day?
Elapsed Time?
I think the time is with regards to the duration I input in the time series....am I correct?

I don't know how to call it but the input choices...I'm worried there might be something wrong or I didn't chose the right one for the simulation to run correctly and give me correct results. But it does say the run was successful. I guess I have to trust that, don't you think?

I guess so, because some of my colleagues are saying the same thing...it's a very good hydraulic software. But none of them have the time to explain and train me comprehensively how to use it. We are all busy right now. So I have to teach myself how to use it by reading the tutorial. The only word I remember in the end was HAPPY SWMMING!

DrainageR,
Most tutorial starts with complexity.

To explain SWMM5, I start with the simplest network possible. Two tanks connected with one pipe, and one outfall.
Try to run it and then try to understand it, and try to manipulate it. Thanks
