I have a hemispherical head with a cast nipple 1.25" in diameter and 1.50" long. The first .75" of the nipple is threaded with a 1.25" thread. The remaining .75" of length is straight 1.25" OD.
I was told that the straight OD on the nipple needs to be 1.38" OD and the length of the straight OD needs to be at least 1" long. I inquired as to why, and I was told that there is a minimum requirement in ASME in regards to this.
Could someone possibly quote me the paragraph in section UW-16 that would apply to this instance?? I don't believe ASME has minimum requirements on nozzles or openings until you reach 3" in diameter.
