Isolate geometry from it's reference?

Hello,

if I am in a sketch and I have projected some edges of 3D solids into it (the 3D solids could be from the same part, or from other parts - if I am working in an assemly), or if I'm just creating a plane in my part, based (referenced) on a solid planar surface from another part in assy, well, in all these cases, how can I isolate my geometry from the references (break the link to the reference)?

Thanks in advance for any answer!

With the sketch open, activate the Display/Delete Relations tool in the Sketch toolbar, and delete the On-edge relations.

to add to what Corblimeylimey said......Just make a block of all the sketch entities if you want to keep the relation these entities intact with each other.

to do the plane reference removal.......

Create the plane on the surface or edge....... then create a 3D sketch with 2 line in L shape & pierce all three points thru the given plane. Now delete these relations without moving the points. exit the 3d sketch & hold & drag it in feature tree before the plane. Now edit the plane reference & select the points of the given 3D sketch.

Hope it helped.

Thanks a lot for your answers, I will try it and report back!

It works! Thanks again!
Concerning the plane reference removal, would there be another solution for that, a more "direct" one, like the one for the 2d Sketch?

depends what you want to achieve......this is a universal sort of trick which will work in all situations......there can be more ways to do it which will depend on geometry/model etc.

It would be helpful if you can tell us what you want to achieve by removing references.

I have to make an assembly of two parts: a lower part and a cover (upper) part). The lower part is already available and I have to make the matching upper part (cover) for it. I have started the cover part by making first a plane on the interface surface of the lower part, on wich I have copied (projected) the profile of the lower part. After that I've made the cover to the end. Now the problem is, almost each time I modify the lower part geometry (even slightly), I receive a lot of errors in the cover part after update (projected/referenced geometry not found). To avoid this, I want to isolate the first projected geometry in the cover part from it's referenec from the lower part and also to make the first plane independent of the interface surface. Concerning the plane, I've tried to make a new independent one and than to replace the first plane used for the first sketch, but in this case the whole geometry will be turned 180° or mirrored... and I have no idea how to modify the "orientation" of the sketch in the plane (reverse "x" or "y" in sketch)...
Maybe somebody could tell me what is the "best practice" in this case?
