Anyone out there preparing for the IStructE chartership exam? When I did I was lucky enough to be sent on the IStructE's 12 week course which held a weekly session where candidates met to listen to a small structured presentation on a particular subject before attempting to answer a past exam paper as a small group. Mentors would then come round and advise as necessary to help these groups develop their answers.
Unfortunately due to covid this course is not running at the moment and even if it was the cost of this course is significant and often a barrier for potential candidates. I'm very grateful that the company I work for paid for this course at the time and I believe this was pivotal in my success of passing the exam. Not because the resources and learning segments but rather that the discussion in our groups helped me see multiple solutions that I otherwise might not have seen.
I'm always trying to help fellow engineers (normally have at least one mentor in a pre-covid world...) and I'm looking to set up a free regular zoom/teams (or other platform) where candidates can call in to discuss past papers, share resources and generally help each other develop.
The time, structure and regularity of these sessions will be subject to the amount of interest but will likely develop as we go.
If your interested please let me know on this thread below
