Im working on a Jewelry store. Obviously the store part is pretty simple. Im just concerned about the backroom. The Jeweler stores a couple large tanks of oxygen that he uses for making jewelry, and also has a tank of acetylene. Im sure he uses these chemicals to weld, which means they are burning, which means we need ventilation. Does anyone have an idea of a suggested air changes/ hour of ventilation?

Thanks!

Instead of space air changes, you should consider point of use ventilation, like they do for soldering.

See ACGIH Industrual Ventilation.

American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists = ACGIH

I really think they are just doing alterations and repairs here. Not really making jewelry. The existing shop has nothing in it. This new store is only 2000 ft^2 so I dont think industrial ventilation will be a very good fit.

I think I am just going to do a downdraft vent and a overhead exhaust fan to keep the room negative. Maybe I was over-thinking this?

See ASHRAE Handbook - Applications, Chapter 32: Industrial Local Exhaust

You should read the ACGIH before you conclude that it won't be useful. Any kind of ventilation, both industrial and other, is dealt with in the manual.

I will definitely see if I can find a copy. Thank You
