JIS equivalent to ASTM for gears 1

I am doing some research for my company This is the information that I have found we have japan's JIS as S45CVS1 people say it is equivalent to S45C or G4051. What are the remaining VS1 specs mean or what is the ASTM equivalent for gears not nuts A194-2h that people also keep showing.

I am looking for the chemical breakdown for the material S45CVS1 or its ASTM OR AISI equivalent. Every website I visited calls for S45C but does not clarify what the VS1 means.
 
Well, I asked around (I work at a Japanese engineering firm), but no one has heard of S45CVS1. Do you have the document that calls out S45CVS1?
 
Okay, I'm not 100% sure, but I think that it may not be VS1(one) but VSL. Is that possible? If so, VSL appears to be a testing method. I could be (very) wrong. So maybe the material call out means S45C metal, strength tested according to the VSL spec.

The thing I'm not sure about is VSL appears to be either a construction method or a material test, I'll ask tomorrow. Here's the page I was looking at, it's all in Japanese though.

Thank you for the website I was able to get some of it translated. I see the part that you are talking about it being VSL instead of VS1 and that could be a possibitly. I did not see on there an explanation of what the VSL strenghting method actually is or what they do to achive it. If you could help translate that part for me that would be very helpful thank you again for helping me with this.

Hi Ivy85,

I asked a co-worker today, and unfortunatly I don't think the link I provided has any relation to the gear material. Seeing as there is little information on S45CVS1 (one) or S45CVSL on the net and none of the people here (my co-worker's main job is designing gears) have heard of it, it may be a company specific material callout. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
