Hi

I'm currently working on a system where i have to design according to JIS standards for fabrication in Japan.

I'm in the hunt for the standard on how to calculate the pipe thickness needed according to a JIS standard?
I have worked in PED and ASME before - is there a equivalent for these standard on how to dimensioning these pipes?
It is both high and low pressure i'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

The lack of a response tells you two possible things.

No one has actually designed anything in Japan.

It doesn't exist.

Not sure which. They are standard for every last bit of pipe or bolt but I couldn't find anything.

I assume you've asked the client?

Perhaps contact a manufacturer of pipe for the Japanese market and find out what standards they are subject to.

There are multiple JIS for pipe etc.

It's the design bit which is not easy to track down.... TBF they may know but might just say they only make it.

When we were suppling pipe and tube for power plants in Japan it was all ASME.
The JIS material that we ever supplied was for automotive applications.
Does your paperwork include the required JIS spec numbers?
You might find them exactly like other international specs.

Hi again

Thanks for all the feedback.
What i have found out is also that they are looking to ASME when they are designing, so for now I will just use the calculation in ASME B31.3 for the process piping.
For the pressure vessels they have a standard called: JIS B 8265 - and then for the materials they have a standard for the piping, flanges etc. that gives the measurements and sch size (they are close to ASME on the piping, but on the flanges they are close to the DN sizes) that is a little confusing.
But i have not found any standard that relates to process piping in JIS.
