Hello all,

we have a situation where the diameter of the header and nozzle are the same. So when we want to weld it together we arrive at a zone there will be atleast 3 welded joints join in. Could anyone tell what would be the joint efficency for such zone? is there any restriction for such zone in ASME?

Why 3 joints? Can't you rotate the pipe?

Anyway this is normal branch connection welding and in the ASME piping codes there is no issue.

what is this thing?

Which code?
If ASME VIII/1 is applicable read table UW-12. The joint shell to header is an corner joint, which means joint of type 7 and there is no Joint Efficiency.

When the header is the same diameter as a nozzle, the best solution is a Tee. Is this route a possibility?

The devil is in the details; she also wears prada.
