Hello Everyone.

My Vessel Jacket Design is as per attached file. and i am stuck at Longitudinal weld joint of jacket,as per ASME sec8 div1 Table UW-12 limitations is it not allowed??
As it is jacket shell longitudinal weld i can consider only Type 3 (single welded butt joint without use of backing strip).
What are the possibilities??
Thanks.

I forgot to mention that i can not slip this jacket on inner vessel because of the top and bottom jacket sealer ring is attached to inner vessel so i have only option to weld this two piece split jacket to weld from outside only.

c8829, first, Type 3 joints are not permitted for long seams, per Table UW-12.

Second, read the description for a Type 1 joint. It permits "other means" than double welding for these joints. In practice this is usually obtained by careful joint preparation and use of a TIG root pass. Joint efficiency will be per degree of RT. See also UW-37(b).

You'll likely have to satisfy your AI and perhaps your client that you can reliably make sound joints.

Regards,

Mike
