Knit surfaces into solids

Hi,
I imported an IGES assembly file (from SW) into UG NX2.
Due to the fact that IGES does not keep the solids, I got all solids as surfaces.
Is there a way (automatic is preferred) to knit the surfaces into solids? Is there a settings for that used during the import process?
Each part I have in the assembly contain exactly one solid.

Another question: When I import a binary parasolid file of an assembly (again, from SolidWorks), I get no hirarchy: All parts are siblings with no structure (although the original assembly has a structure).
Again, maybe a setting for importing parasolid files...

Thanks in advance,
Dan.

The easiest way is to avoid iges and save as parasolids. Iges delivers a poor part representation, and isn't always very accurate.
I know of no setting that will maintain part hiarchy with parasolids, but you will get accurate solids.

If you're intent on using IGES data, there is a setting in UG's IGES Import Translator to automatically sew (knit) surfaces, but that depends upon the tolerances of the surfaces. If too high, they won't sew.

There is an option in Solidworks to "Flatten assembly hierarchy" when "save as" a paasolid file. See if the Solidworks file can be saved with this unchecked. There is also the option to save as *.x_t or *.x_b.

This is SolidWorks 2004 which saves parasolid version 15. An older version of SolidWorks may not have this option to not flatten the assembly heirarchy.
