Afternoon all,

I have a KYB RC5912 Coil Spring from the front suspension of a Suzuki Swift.

It has failed and fractured, I am doing some failure analysis but I cannot find the material of the component.

Anyone got any ideas please?
Thanks

Neil

No, it is an academic one.

KYB is the supplier of the suspension components/module, and this must be their specification, because it is not a designation from any type of consensus standard (ISO, JIS, SAE, etc.). If this spring uses large diameter wire (> 13 mm), the it is likely hot wound using SUP7 or SUP12 (standard JIS spring grades equivalent to SAE 9260 and 9254, respectively) or a proprietary grade like HDS12 from Mitsubishi or SRS60 from Kobe Steel. If the wire is smaller in diameter, then it is likely cold wound using a pre-hardened wire/rod like SUP12, or a proprietary grade like UHS1900 from Kobe. If you have the composition analysis results, feel free to post them, and I or someone else can assist you with the interpretation.
