I have a large covered porch about 750sf, L-shaped, and about 13' wide. The porch exterior walls are 8" block and brick and the interior wall is 8" block. We are going to fill the porches and pour concrete. The fill ranges from about 3'-4'. What would be the best fill material?

Clean crushed stone, 1/2 to 3/4", would work as well. Whatever you use make sure that the material is well compacted.

don't make the mistake of jetting that fill. You could cave in the basement wall. I'd keep compactors 3 feet from any basement wall to avoid damaging them.

Thanks for the input. I was definitely concerned about compacting too close to the wall. Ill be sure to keep the plate compactor away from the wall.
