I'm looking for a sub $3000 monochrome printer/plotter capable of printing on 24" wide (possibly 36" wide) roll feed plain white paper. Ink jet is OK. It should have a cutter to separate plots. What experience and recomendations are out there? Thanks!!!

We use at our office a HP DesignJet 800 series plotter, and that works pretty well if you like a 24x36 sheet every 5 minutes 15 seconds. I think that they are running about $3500 currently.

I have also seen and herd good things about the HP DesignJet 500 series, they are running right around $3000 or maybe a little less.

I purchased my HP DesignJet 700 on eBay for $600. It's slow, a little finicky, and service parts are expensive. I went the used route since I'm spending my own money and it's not the primary printer. Paper rolls are cheap and ink cartriges last a long while for simple line drawings. I'd say I'm happy for the dollars spent.

We have a HP800. It's OK but a little slow. I would have a few vendor demo what you are interested in (use your drawings).

I use an HP Designjet 350C colour plotter for 24x36 plots and it works really well...

We just purchased the Xerox 510 Wide Format. Works well and is very fast. (slow initial warm-up time)

I recently bought an HP 110 at home for small time work. It will print up to 24" wide with the optional roller feed. It only cost around 900.00 after. So far It's held up well. Before that I owned an HP 450 that worked great for 7 years, and at work I use the HP 500 that cost about 2500.00. In other words I can highly recommend the HP line of plotters for quality and price.
