Hi folks,
does anyone know where is the largest FCC of the world? Is it at Pertamina, Indonesia or Reliance, India?
Thanks,
-SB

Please advise the size of the FCC at Pertamina, Indonesia and Reliance, India. I suspect that UOP, KBR and the other FCC licensors can advise the largest licensed by their process. Most of us only care about our own projects or plants. HESS in St. Croix and Exxon Baytown are among the larger refineries by crude processing volume. I do not even know the largest on that basis.

Neither, I think. Its important to remember that not all refineries are created equal. Not every refinery has the same complexity. The latest Oil and Gas Journal Refining survey has Reliance rated at 130,000BPD of FCC capacity with a crude capacity of 660,000BPD. ExxonMobil Baton Rouge is listed as having 229,000BPD FFC Capactiy, with a total crude capacity of 501,000BPD.

The largest listed "refinery" is the Paraquana Refining Center in Venezuela at 990,000BPD crude capacity but with only 166,000 in FCC capacity. Its a "simple refinery design to quickly upgrade product for shipment. Baton Rouge is an example of a highly complex refinery aimed at end market products. The Venezuela center is actually three refineries linked so its a bit of a strech to call it the largest.

That being said, the OGJ survey is for capacity. I don't know what the single biggest unit is in those refineries.

Hess-St. Croix, aka HOVENSA, has a FCC charge capacity of 140,000 BPD and with a delayed coker is now more of an "all fuels" refinery than in the past when they were mainly a heavy resid supplier to the US East Coast. Their current crude capacity is about 500,000 BPD, down from a high in the '70's and '80's of about 740,000 BPD.

Paraguaná Refining Center (CRP) is located in the west area of Venezuela. It includes two refineries, Cardon refinery and AMUAY refinery. AMUAY has the largest capacity Cude Units (five Crude units) in the world. AMUAY's Flexicoker is also the biggest in the world (only five flexicokers worldwide). It was the original Exxon plant back in 1970.
