Hello all, Im trying to cut some titanium with our laser and i'm having some moderate sucess. I just cant get a clean edge. Would you recommend using a SS tech table or an aluminum one?? Also im cutting with nitrogen.

Thanks

Regardless of what cutting table you use, so long as you are using Nitrogen as your assist gas, it's going to oxidize the edges of the titanium. It's like cutting stainless with oxygen.

Typically, if you want a nice polished edge (like the one you get with Stainless cut with Nitrogen) in titanium, you want to use argon. It is more expensive, but the results are excellent.

You can probably play with the speed but the end result is going to be about the same.

Good Luck

You could depending on the material thickness, type and compound. What we used to do in the shop was to pre-heat the material before bending it.

This will be a challenge in itself since titanium has a lot of springback.

Good Luck

We have had a lot of luck cutting titanium using argon. Also, we coat the back side of the material with milk of magnesia. this stops the spatter from adhering to the bottom of the sheet.
