For the outdoor bar covering Im working on, have 6x6 posts and 2x10 beams. Basically 3 bays long. Was going to use the CC66 column cap from Simpson. Would you count on this for any sort of "Moment Connection" at the beam/column connection? I basically have about 800 lbs shear at each connector, and based on the geometry, I can get all the components to check.

With this, my structure will be basically a 18'x30' wood canopy, with these as the moment connectors. I dont want to have to use tension ties to create a portal frame system.

Thoughts?

Kinda old fashioned, but I like knee braces...

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

Intuitively I think the CC series does offer some fixity in the joint. I would still size the beams for simple span. A 3-2x10 will need to be shimmed so that the beam fits flush with the side plates. Therefore, there is likely more rotation than a fixed joint would assume.

Dik, I agree will go back to Architect and see if I can get some. I think just one bay would do the trick for me.

Skeletron, I wouldn't change beam design.

Think I will go with the column caps, and then simpsons moment base connector. That will give me the bit of stiffness I need at the base, and a little peach of mind.
