Lathe for fire polishing glass tubes

I am interested in getting a lathe for mainly spinning glass tubes that I need to fire polish using a separate burner. Do I need a glass blowers lathe or can I make do with an "ordinary" lathe. Tubes would be 1 inch and under length between half inch and 1.5 inch.

How about four cheap bearings? Mount two next to each other and a little ways away two more next to each other. Space them so your glass can sit across both pairs hanging off one end. Spin the glass with your hand while you polish it. Fast, easy, adaptable, cheap.
