hi guys ,,
i ve asked to air conditioning a five stars hotel laundary which service guests rooms, hotel appartments,... a list of equipment of the laundary has been supplied to me like steam heated extractor 40KG and ironer ...etc. and the steam consumption mass flow rate for all these equipment are shown how can i calculate the load of the laundary ?i ll use hood for ironer .i have looked at ashrae for these application and i found nothing

The reason why you can't find info is that no one air-conditions laundarys. You could add spot cooling to the operator workstations, otherwise you are just fighting a losing battle against the radiant heat.

The heat load to the space will equal the steam consumption of the equipment, unless the equipment is hooded and extracted.
 
I successfully added evaporative cooling to a hosptial laundry a long time ago, even though it was in NW Florida with a WBT of around 80 deg F in the summer. I just went for cooling where the people were located; it was still a great improvement for them.
 
The laundry consultant/vendors usually supplies you with anticipated heat gains to the space for equipment he is providing. The ironers, folders, etc. I have seen all had exhaust connections associated with them. Just an exercise adding up the heat rejection numbers plus the make-up air requirements to get the space load. Laundries I have designed had full HVAC and functioned without issue.

As with you, the larger laundry facilities were in 4 and 5 star resorts with large chilled water capacities - which was a plus.

I agree with Wareagl487, and would like to add, the large dryers are built within a separate non-occupied room that only needs heat only make-up and direct exhaust from the dryers. Only the face of the dryer is connected to the laundry. This lowers the exhaust requirements from the laundry room. The large Hotel chains have very good design standards.
 
i ve asked from vendors the loads. ill coordinate with them to isolate large dryers which consumes 143kg/hr but at valet area we have several items like collar cuff yoke press consumes 11.7kg/hr steam
the load dissipated to air which the cooling coil shoul handle = hfg steam x steam mass flow rate is that right

hfg steam =2133.4 kj/kg @ 3 bar
is this right??
 
I stand corrected, working conditions seem to be improving. Can we resolve our experiences into union and non-union locations? :)

"hfg steam =2133.4 kj/kg @ 3 bar" - (gauge) yes. Note that the tables are usually in absolute figures.

If you have large dryers, and you are responsible for exhausting them, allow for lint build up in the extraction ducts. Make sure there are clean out doors installed so the ducts can be checked and cleaned.
I recently did a rip out, and re-install on a bank of 4 large dryers in a laundry room of a hotel and found 15 inches of lint in a 30"x 30" duct for a distance of 30 feet.
It was not supposed to be there because the dryers had pre filters. However the maintenance practices at the hotel left a lot to be desired. I will not say any more than that.

i contact the vendor he said the equipment are closed circuit and by using hood i extract latent load but how sensible heat caused by steam can be calculated and if i must take this hole load or a ratio from it ?
