Two car garage leaning at the opening end - 20 foot wide, with 1 foot turn at one side and 3 feet at the other. Roof is supported to header over the door (this is not the shear wall) - nice high center of gravity, eh?

Anyway, any ideas (maybe past expereince) on relatively easy way to straighten/brace this end? Simpson shear wall products are not made for retrofits. I was thinking of advising on interior frame.

Recommended for you

Add a steel portal frame of some type at the door opening or,

Add a ceiling diaphragm - either with diagonal tie-rods/turnbuckles or plywood sheathing (after plumbing the structure) to make a 3 sided shearwall system or,

Add exterior buttresses (may not be feasible or desireable or,

punt.

I was thinkin' of the 1st option you listed, but I sort of like the 2nd option. Thanks for the input.
