Hi folks, happy new year.

Just got a question from my project manager while I am enjoying my holidays:

"Did the new Div 2 Code did away with all the lethal service requirements such a impact testing and PWHT ?"

Please anyone who is familar with lethal service uisng latest Div 2 to advise. Thanks a lot.

There is no "lethal service" designation in Division 2.

For lethal service all weld seam shall be visible to inspector during hydrotest,no RF pad should overlap any weld seams, same is mentioned in UG 99 g of Div 1.

Baijuz - do you have a paragraph for that assertion?

Here is what I told my manager how to handle this problem:

"Design, fabrication and code stamp per Div. 2, and comply with Div 1 lethal service requirements. Where there is a conflict between codes, the most stringent requirement govern."
I don't see any vendor will have problem with it.

jtseng123 - in my opinion, that is not a good way. I would figure out what you really want from the Div 1 requirements, and include them as specifically-named requirements in the Div 2 UDS. I would not, under any circumstances, simply refer to Div 1 for a Div 2 vessel. It's a lazy cop-out, when I can and should be managed in a well-written UDS.

I dont think Baijuz wont be (the kinda guy) able to (come back and) provide you an answer TGS4 ;)
