Hello!
I have some questions regarding the requirements on lifting levers for relief valves as it applies to a project I am working on.
The relief device in question features a packed lifting lever. The devices intent is to protect a positive displacement pump and its piping system from a blocked outlet scenario. The vessels that receive the fluid from this pipe are not pressure vessels. They do not operate above 15psig. The fluid in the system is 20 wt% caustic at 122F.
The code does not indicate the purpose of the lifting device in Section VIII. Section I mentions the lifting device being used to verify that the device is free to lift. This would however require that there be a task to open these valves before or shortly after putting a pump online or on some set inspection frequency.
Does this relief valve require a lifting device per code?
Is it sound reasoning to say that lifting devices on PSVs are only required by code on relief valves intended to protect vessels governed by ASME Section VIII and Section I?
Many thanks,
Sara
