Lifting standards in Dubai 1

Hello all,

We are purchasing a 6-ton spreader beam for heavy overhead lifting, to be provided to a customer in Dubai. Being a new engineer, I am somewhat ignorant of lifting standards, and how they are affected by local law.

The American standard for below-the-hook lifting devices is ASME B30.2, and this is what the spreader beam vendor is going to certify the device to. Are standards like this required/specified by LAW? i.e. Is there a law in the UAE or in Dubai that specifies what specification we need to certify the lifting device to (ASME or otherwise)? Is this the case in the United States? Or is adhering to the ASME standard just the right thing to do to ensure the device is safe?

I hope this question makes sense. I am just making sure that we are fulfilling any legal obligations that might exist for this kind of equipment overseas. Thank you for reading!

Thanks Kenat. I did see that document, but I am confused by its scope. I believe that document only applies to Special Economic Zones (Ports Customs and Free Zones). I don't think it applies to operations in Dubai as a whole.
