Hi there, does anyone knows a way to limit the shear stress of a beam-like connection in ETABS? I know you can do a Tension/Compression Limit on the axially loaded member but is there an option to limit the shear stress too?
To give a clear image of what I am trying to do, imagine you have a beam-like connection that sit very closely to the top of a column. In the event of fire, this column will like to expand and the beam-like connection will restrained the column axially which give rise to additional axial load due to restrained thermal expansion. Essentially, I would like to analyse what would be the restrained thermal expansion loads in the column for a specific shear capacity of the beam-like connection.
At the moment, I am modifying the shear stiffness of the connection so it will end up with the shear stress/limit I wanted but this is too tedious as it involve try and error with different shear stiffnesses.
Any ideas/helps will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
