I am trying to create a complex line type. I have found some advice via the nett about how to do it. This refers to shape files in the line type 'name.shx' - this is where I am confused. I always thought shapes were .shp.

Can anybody explain to me the relationship here (between shx and shp) and how one creates a shx file (or views it properly because its just a load of symbols).

Cheers. Sean.

Short answer-
Use the AutoCAD "compile" command to create a .shx from a .shp.

Hi,

the *.shp file ist the symbol-definition, an ASCII file.
ACAD needs a *.shx as a symbol file to show the linetype.
Look into the other posts and into the ACAD-help...
