I created a part and made the 2d drawing. I now need to change my part to a product. Is there any way to link the existing 2d drawing to my new product and establish new links to the product? I do not want to recreate the 2d drawing if possible. Any help is much appreciated.

Simple answer - the second time always goes faster...

When this happens to me, I usually lay out all the new views, and then for each new view, I "align view using elements" to make them lay exactly over the old views. Then, one by one, I isolate the old views, delete the geometry, (all except text and dimensions) and copy and paste the text and annotation into the new, identical view. Afterwards, you can relink the text and dimenstions, and delete the old view(s).

As complicated as all that sounds, it's very fast, and saves a ton of rework time.

The only other way to do this is thru CATScript. Thru this, you can drop the existing links and create new ones. It will isolate the Dimensions, though.

Otherwise, when you try to EDIT --> LINKS --> REPLACE you will get a Document Refused the Link (or is it Link Refused the Document?) when you try to replace a CATPart link with a CATProduct link.

How do you relink the text and dimensions up to the new views? I have only been working in V5 for 2 months. We were using V4. Any help is much appreciated!

There is a function called "re-route dimensions"

Find it in help, or pull up the commands list under the "edit" menu. Once you activate it, look for the icon to activate.
