Using Catia V5R18;

Is it possible to make the compass match/follow the view orientation?

Example: When I select the front view from the views toolbar, I want the model’s front view to be normal to the screen and not rotate left or right. I’m tired of always having to rotate the compass so it matches the views.

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

Right click over the compass and set to Use Local Axis System

I see what you are doing, try this -- select front view then change the compass to Make YZ the Privileged Plane.

That didn’t work either. When I click on the front view, it’s actually the right view.

Who's right view? Dassault's version of the front view, North American standard? Regardless you can change them using the Named Views icon at the bottom of the view list.

The right view in North American Standard. Regardless of the standard, named views shouldn’t be the option since the views have already been created. Catia support provided me with a work around, it’s not what I wanted but it works.

you can customize the named views to match your own preferences. This has nothing to do with the compass.

enter CATIA admin mode (so CATSettings are saved in the right place) and customize views.

then clean user CATSettings and start CATIA in regular user mode.

Voila
