Assuming that this stuff wasn't used as an example in your college textbooks, or that you sold the textbooks, try to find one of those thick "... Engineers Handbook" volumes, e.g. at a yard sale. Really old ones are written in English.
Really, really old 'electrical' ones, from the days when _one_ engineer got to do the generator selection, the water turbine selection, the wiring, and the dam, all by his damn self, are at least comprehensible. Of course you need to check your design against newer standards, but the basics are all there in one place.
