Load Cases For Evaluation Of Nozzle Loads

Hi,

I have a simple question concerning the evaluation of equipment nozzle loads. I want to start discussion here about which load cases should someone who does pipe stress analysis prepare/build and then check when evaluating nozzle loads for equipment.
I am specifically interested in which superposition's of load cases we have to take into account when conducting the nozzle load check (e.g. dead load + occasional loads(earthquake or wind), operation + occasional loads(earthquake or wind), etc.)

Is it ok, to check individual loads on pump nozzle in such a way that you take highest load calculated for X direction among all the calculated load cases, then you look for highest load in Y direction the same way you did for X and then finally for Z direction (e.g. Xmax in load case dead load X + earthquake X, Ymax in load case operation Y + wind Y, Zmax operation Z + earthquake Z)

Or is there another approach for this evaluation of nozzle loads. Maybe it's not to mix values for individual loads from different load cases??

Hi 1anuppiping1,

I've read the articles you suggested and I can say that it was useful to some extent, but I'm still looking for additional explanations about the checking of nozzle loads. In the second article "pump-piping", it still isn't explained how to check calculated nozzle loads against allowable (do you take max individual components for each direction Fxmaxm Fymax, Fzmax and compare them to the allowable individual components or different approach has to be used).

Thnx
