Colleagues:

I am not familiar with ASCE 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, but I need to make the structural analysis and design of a building according to that document.

I undrestand thay I shall use basic load combinations of section 2.3.2 and combination 5 and 7 must consider factors mentioned in section 12.4.2.3 for strength design. However I see load combinations including "overstrength factor", section 12.4.3. Question is:

In a Site Class C, Steel Ordinary Moment Frames, shall I use seismic Load effect including overstrength factor?. Is it necessary to use overstrength in all cases?. If not, when is it necessary to be used?.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

The overstrength factor is only used when specifically required within the body of ASCE 7. Usually it is applied to things like collectors and connections at the ends of braces.
