Load defaults with new part

I have set my defaults, but when I start a new part, the defaults are not correct. I can “load all defaults” in annotation preferences and my defaults will load. I need the defaults to load into a new NX8 part automatically.

How do I get the defaults to load in a new NX8 part?

You need to modify the template file that is being called when you create a new part. Those settings are stored in the template files.
You will only use the default settings if there is no template file being used.

Also, if you're not using a template or start part, you have to restart NX for the new settings to take effect. Keep in mind, some settings are part specific, so if you open existing parts, colors, drafting arrows and many other things will NOT be changed.

Have a look at: which covers the customer defaults and how they work in relation to drafting and explains some of what Ben & Tim mentioned.
There are other videos we made there that cover drafting templates that may be of interest as well.

Ok, I get it. Some defaults are part specific and I need template.

Our department wants its own defaults with some slight differences than other departments. I will need to set up a template. I created a template and dropped it in the NX template folder on our network, but my template doesn't show up in the list for New parts.

How do I get our dept template to show up?

Thanks

By the way, the video was a big help.

Have a look at the video: which covers the pax files.
You'll have to edit or create your own to add your own templates to the File->New dialog.

Also keep in mind i've found that if you use a template part, the file creation date and time stamps are of the template part. NOT at the time of creation the new part from said template.

Really stuffs up the file modified date stamps in Part History etc

I think this is a bug/fault. if you use a blank template it does it correctly.

I found the blank template defaults setting to show it in the NEW dialogue. I thought the blank template would accept my defaults. The blank template has all sorts of crazy defaults. The blank template is not using my defaults.

ex. The blank template comes in with a gray modeling background. My default is black.

Where in the customer defaults did it allow you to set the modeling background (plain) color? For NX9, I don't see an option to set the plain background color, it seems to use the top graduated color for shaded views.
