Location of welded splice on steel beam

Hello Structural Engineers,
May I ask, if is there a standard requirement regulating the location of welded splice on steel beam either rolled section or built up section?

It's common practice in these environs to stay away from maximum moment areas for welded splices. With CJP welds, the splice can occur anywhere...

Absent a concentrated load near the splice point, around here it is customary to splice a simple, uniformly-loaded beam in the middle third of the span length.

it's also common practise to substitute a splice in the middle third for two splices at the zero moment locations.
Depends on the loads, the associated costs and the possibilities you have (in terms of open space).
