I had seen busbars going from Transformer to Nearby panels (4000A,415V) supported by very rigid
pillars.I asked suppliers then why you suggest such huge supports..Their answer was to protect
against high short current stress.

Now consider new situation where I encounter is of Bus bars from LV panel to Feeders around 200mtrs away. Here busbars are supported in simple brackets ,seems to be like longitudinal expansion stress only considered for support.

My experience wih huge support vs these simple brackets surprises me.

I would be grateful if anybody can give some insights on busbar support theory...

thanx in advance

Abraham

Try IEC 60865-1 Short-circuit currents –Calculation of effects –Part 1: Definitions and calculation methods

Photographs are always helpful - you can embed them directly, or attach them.

If you want to attempt your own analysis then Cahiers Technique papers 158 and 162 might be a good starting point. The whole set is an excellent resource.
