Gents,
Can someone spare their precious time in giving a solution to my below question please?

1. As per AWS D1.1 Cl. 5.22.3.1 Longitudinal weld seams of adjoining sections shall be staggered a minimum of 90°. We have a typical problem at site in which we have only 40-50°. How to resolve the issue?

2. Two 45° Elbows were welded together to get a 90° Elbow. The Elbows are 30" butt welded type as per B16.9. Now the existing welds on the 45° elbows are meeting at same location. There is no reference in B31.3 on this scenario. How to resolve? I am attaching a sketch also with this.

Thanks in advance.

Why are you quoting from D1.1? If you are welding pipe to B31.3, what you are doing is acceptable.

Thanks Stan, Well, the weld in question is between a jacket leg and transition piece.

This jacket is already piled in sea and a 3800 ton production station is now resting on that.

This one is designed in acc. to AWS D1.1. It is not a process piping to design in Acc. to B31.3

Shafi...

Since, after a long series of questions and answers, we find that your problem is a structural problem, not a process piping problem.....

I believe that you should post your question in one of the structural engineering forums, not the "piping & fluid mechanics forum"

You forgot to complete the requirement, "...unless closer spacing is agrred upon by the Owner and fabricator." You must obtain the Owner's permission.

You are absolutely correct Stan. Well, we are still hunting for a solution to this.
