Looking for good panel design book

I am automation control for 5 years, and we have an experienced design engineer and I am just programming PLCs and motion controllersc I am reading (looking) at NEC2002, it is a reference, but it is not a friendly book to study gHow to design control Panelh

If you know any book that shows rule of thumb about designing control panel, Please let me know Title of the book. I appreciate for your help!

NEC is by no means a design book for a panelboard or any such thing. Its not even a design manual for electrical circuiting. NEC only spells out minimum requirement for installation to make it relatively safe, not necessariliy functional.

You need to explore NEMA, IEC and ANSI standards (and other applicable), depending upon where you are. In fact if you want to get any cetification, you need to make a representive unit and submit for certification to a testing compnay such as UL, ETL etc.

Thanks for your reply. My problem is just reading gapplicable standardh does not help me much right now, because of my lack of experience, and broad statement of those standards. These standard are written for liability situation, and not descriptive way (English is my 2nd language). For example, when I am designing 4-axis servo with 128-point I/O. Should I use 230V or 480V power for servo? (I think arc blast is a big topic right now) For pneumatic valves, 24Vdc or 110V? Where is a good location for transformersc

I guess I am looking for something like gelectric panel design 101 for dummyh.

Go to the EC&M (electrical Construction and maintence magazine) web site they have books on motor controls and panel controls for sale there.

It a good place to start to get familiar with us controls and stardards. These are books written by practical application people, the real world not text books or research. Yes, you will need to comply with a lot of United State standards.

Books are not enough, you need to employe people with US Electrical Engineering Control Background to train your people. This PC Technology is a fast moving business, with special advance software requirements and it is a high cost money making industry with a lot of high tech competition.

Suggestion: NFPA 79 available on

http://www.nfpa.org

may help as far as the safety and standards are concerned.
It appears that any suitable handbook for control panels is not available because of the control panel wide diversity. It would probably be a very voluminous book.
