Dear all,

I hope you can help.

I am trying to repair an old part from a historic vehicle. It contains a number of English Electric Norlog encapsulated circuits. These are green plastic about 2.5cm each side and stand around 1cm high.

A fairly thorough websearch has revealled that they were largely manufactured at the Kidsgrove plant (Staffordshire, UK) and were used in many early computers and electronic devices. Manufacture seems to have been from around 1965-1980ish.

I have also got a few other old circuits with them on, but the part codes are all different, so I'm trying to find out the functionaility of each device type and what the codes mean on each unit.

Does anyone out there remeber these devices? Do you know how to decode the part references? Do you have any relevant data books or sheets?

Thank you in anticipation.

Those modules were based on reed relays. I have seen them in old lathes and automation applications, the last one in an SKF factory. But apart from that, you seem to have a far better grasp than I have.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

Thank you Skogsgurra. Interesting.

The units I have has 8 Norlogs each, the ID codes are XZ, XZA, XZB or XZC. All are used as Comparitors, however I can't locate spares (hardly a big suprise). But I have been sent some Norlogs but these have other codes and I'm not sure if they will work, hence my request for information.

Having disected a unit that wasn't working there did seem to be a diode or transistor and some parts that might have been resistors, but I didn't see a reed relay (doesn't mean it wasn't there!).

I may also remember wrong. Name could be similar. I didn't have any analogue functions in that lathe. Only digital. For analogue, you need active components, of course. You didn't see any electron tubes? :)

No Tubes, but lots of old style capacitors and metal can diodes.[smile]

Photo of a PCB with Norlog parts: These parts are like the ones I've obtained, and have similar, but not the same, part codes.

Mine are like the smaller of the two shown at the bottom of page 8 of this document:

All help in tracking down info on the Norlog part codes and their meanings appreciated....:

TIA
