Hi,

I live in Minneapolis, MN. I just graduated from college with an Degree in Engineering Drafting and Design. I was looking to move in the upcoming months but am unaware of where there are good markets for young designers. I am open to any suggestions, I would love to hear about what type of market is out there. I know it is good around Minneapolis here, but like I said, I'd like to go out and start my life away from my hometown.

Any advice helps,

Thanks!

Tom Dot,
On the other hand the unemployment rate in Odessa is 3.2% and 3.1% in Midland as of last week.

Yep, tons of oil patch jobs in Midland/Odessa - they were behind the Eagle Ford formation on the fracking boom, but have a lot more oil. Kids right out of High School getting $60k as roughnecks.

Go to North Dakota young man! Check it out. Walmart is paying trainees $17 an hour because they can't compete with the high paying energy jobs out there. Check the unemployment in No. Dakota - virtually non-existent. All a result of good old free enterprise and the demand for energy. LOTS of high tech jobs and a high demand for trained technical workers. All this will generate jobs for support industries, like machine builders for example.

Just how many Drafting/Design jobs are in those oil/gas fields? Seems like most of that work is done elsewhere, such as Houston.

I would think that the drafting/design jobs are mostly in Houston as well. Something for the OP to research with the various O&G companies.

Austin is full for a reason. ;-)

Because the city fought any major road/highway improvements for decades on the hypothesis "If you don't build it, they won't come."

Hypothesis disproven, but the effects kinda suck.
