Can you help me to understand the difference between ASTM E84 and ASTM E119?
(We specified something using ASTM E119 to protect wood beams and are being asked to substitute ASTM E84. We would like to accept this. Should we? Shouldn't we?)

You can view the abstracts of these standards, and purchase them, at the ASTM International website:

Since these pertain to fire safety, and since they only cost $39 & $44 each, you should purchase the most recent versions of each and make a careful determination of the most appropriate standard.

Cory

Do you specify materitals to ASTM specs often?
Then you had better own the book and read it. When you call out one of these numbers the ASTM forms the basis of your contract. You have a liability, you need to know the rules.

The easiest thing to do is joint ASTM for $85. Then ask for a copy of 04.07 as your 'free' volume. Both of these specs are in that volume.
