Low Cost Pressure Transducer 1

I'm looking for a pressure transducer that will measure pressures in the range 0-4000psi and can stand spikes to 6000psi. This is a low-cost high-volume automotive application (production volume in the range 5000 units per year).

I'm making an appeal to the great wisdom of this board, and asking if anybody has an idea which vendor might entertain such a specific application? All the sensors I'm seeing are in the $100+ price range, which is too high.

Of course. And I get 180,000 hits. I get 446 hits from Thomas Register. I only get 135 hits from GlobalSpec. I've started to slowly whittle away on it. But I was just hoping that someone here might be able to easily save me some time.

I see that Dynaisco bought Viatran. I do not know whether they have anything in your price range. My needs are the other end of the spectrum. I often use Rosemount (Emerson) transmitters.

Entran's least expensive sensor is $135. So far the least expensive sensor I've found is $95 from Omega.

Most of these sensors have accuracy to .25% FS, I would be happy with 2% or even worse. Seems nobody makes such a thing.

If your expected use is 5000/year give the any of the people a call and you be surprised at the OEM discount.
Usually the only restriction is that your order in specific size lots.

5K/yr EAU is well beyond the point you should be even thinking of the Omegas of the industry.

I am currently looking for a $10 sensor as well though my app is lower pressure. I currently have a quote from TI of $30@5K and am going to be calling GE today. I still have to get the boss to find out the actual pressure the cust is trying to read.

The thing to remember is that 99% of google hits that are actually selling what you are looking for are actually only resellers, not manufacturers. Since these transducers are actually made by semicondutor houses, I have my doubts about GE being usefull.

I have heard back from TI...they are making it official - under $20/5K for an amplified transducer!

I tried to find the 68CP series on their web site but there was no mention of it. It seems the 6xCP series in their comparison page only goes up to 500psi. What is the pressure range of the 68CP series?

Sorry, forgot to tell you. I don't know why it is not advertised. The 68CP is the brass version of the 66CP.

They do have a couple of high pressure models, this one is the one they recommended for the lowest cost. The book rate for 5k was $30 but the prices above were actual quotes.

I am guessing the more expensive ones would book for $50. Based on my results you might be able to get them to bid a contract for $35.

DJ Instruments came back with not much better than the $30 for an unamplified sensor at 5K in aircraft grade aluminum. I do not know how far they can go in pressure before needing to switch to stainless but they did say that there was no difference for different pressures as they are custom machined varying the diaphram thickness for the desired pressure. I imagine it is about a $10-20 adder for the amplifier.
