The question is too vague to give you details, but in principle the answer is yes if the pipe or the vessel material doesn´t require PWHT. You also have to consider the space for the hot tap machine.

"Please provide the details" - Errr that's what YOU need to do before anyone can answer this question.

Hot tap machines are often quite long - with the valve and fitting this could easily be 1.5 to 2m long.

Do you have room under your pipe for the machine?

You need to contact a suitably experienced hot tap company to get your information for your particular requirement.

When you are cutting the hole all the hard metal bits will fall down into the valve and mechanism. This is not a good idea and could block the drill or damage the valve.

It sounds like a very bad idea to me.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Is this a high-temperature steam system ???....

Under which codes and standards is this work being done ?

What is the MAXIMUM SAFE TEMPERATURE that your hot tapping equipment is qualified to ?.... Has a RP 2201 calculation been done ?

Has this particular equipment been used on STEAM SYSTEMS before ?
