Low Temperature Material

Hi everyone,

I would like to know if some body could help me in the following question:

When is mandatory the use of low temp mayterial for structural fabrication (bridges, frames, beams, etc..) because I could not find any specific requirement in any structural codes>

What should be the minimun metal design temp (MDMT) to deside for a low temp material or this depends of the owner? why structural codes are not more specific in this regards,

Thank you very much, but still not clear for me, I could not get yet a specific requirements where temperature and material shall be specified under a logical criteria, I mean there is not clear guidelines in the use of low temp materials in cold wheather. Codes stil with a a gap on this matter (it is my point of view)

Look at Table 2.3.1. of High Performance Steel Designers' Guide
Second Edition, April 2002.You have stated service temperature zones to comply with regarding CVN requirements for materials. The CVN requirements (minimum ft-lbs) narrows the list of suitable materials for meeting low service temperature zones.

If you are looking for a laundry list of approved materials for specific service temperatures, this is not realistic. Once you know the CVN requirements and service temperature, it is up to the designer to select the appropriate material.
