Need to know which is the most preferable low temperature piping material for above 600# system, whether carbon steel A333 Gr 6 or Austenitic SS. I know Austenitic stainless steels like 304 or 316 can be used at cryogenic temperatures as low as liquid helium temp (-269deg C). Are there any credits for using A333 Gr6 apart from cost?

thanks....sB

Standard A333 Gr6 is limited to -50 F. I have impact tested it for design temperature of -70 F. I have heard that ASME B31.3 impact requirements have been met as low as -80 F Essentially, those are its minimum design temp. limits.

sb;
What is your design "low temperature" or minimum design metal temperature for this 600 # piping system? Until this temperature is known, it is hard to select the most appropriate material based on cost.

Looking for a range -30 to 120deg C

A333 Gr 6 meets your needs from a service temperature standpoint.
