Hi,

I am designing a truss from which a 5Tonne crane is supported. As, ASCE07 does not provide a distinct load combination including crane for LRFD design. How should I treat the crane load?

1) If crane is treated as a live load, should I still have to apply all the safety factors to the load combinations (1.2 Dead + 1.6 Crane)? Or can I get away with 1.2 Dead + 1.0 Live as the crane load cannot exceed the rated crane capacity?

2) If 1.6 factor is needed, is this factor in addition to impact factor (1.1 or 1.25)?

3) The load combination which makes sense to me is 1.2 Dead + (IM factor) Live.

Where can I find load combination with crane for LRFD design?

I suggest that you use the ASD load combinations shown in Section 3.10 of the AISE TR-13 (Technical Report No. 13), "Guide for the Design and Construction of Mill Buildings". There's lots of other good stuff in there that you might also be interested in.
