Does the lube oil pump return piping necessarily be sloped to 2% when it goes from the process pump return ports to the lube oil tank reservoir. Does it need to have gravity flow to the reservoir, since the lube oil pump is continuously operating and has sufficient head to circulate the SAE 40 lubricant.

In this case the lube oil pump is on a different skid than the process pump about 6 feet apart(something that operations requested) . Reply much requested. Thanks.

Slope will make working on the line much easier for the mechanic. So if the slope in unachievable, add a [double-valved] drain connection to that line. If Operations approves.

I have been on many projects where we had Lube Oil Systems & Lube Oil Skids. In every case the Skid was located on a lower level (one meter to five meters) depending on the type of plant, installation and Equipment.
In all cases the return lube oil lines were sloped for non-pressure gravity flow from the equipment to the lube oil reservoir.
I strongly advise you to discuss your situation and your design with the equipment representatives.

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results
